Many may know the story behind the school prints series, but for those who don't it's a fascinating story of dedication by a young lady - Brenda Rawnsley, to fulfill a dream of her husband Derek whom she married in 1941 but was tragically killed two short years later, one of the many tragedies of WWII.  His dream was to introduce good art to a wider audience especially the young.
 
With the fresh hopes and aspirations after the war in the late 1940's she approached contemporary artists through various channles and produced the first series of twelve prints in 1946 which were printed by the Baynard Press and distributed four per term to schools all around the British isles. The second series followed with print runs of 4 - 7000 in the late 40's and 50's
 
The prints that we are offering are what remain of these original print runs. Now hugley sought after, they are a wonderful tribute to this amazing achievement.
